Homeless Intervention Program The Homeless Intervention Program (HIP), a program through Commonwealth Catholic Charities, operates as a safety net for individuals and families threatened by possible eviction or foreclosure on their homes. Assistance is also available to individuals residing in shelters and other temporary housing who wish to obtain permanent housing. HIP dollars are available through a grant from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. How do I know if I am eligible for HIP Assistance? HIP assistance is available to residents of Dinwiddie, Goochland, Powhatan, Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Hanover, Henrico, Hopewell, Petersburg, Prince George and Richmond. Individuals applying for HIP Assistance must meet the following criteria: • Applicants are experiencing a temporary financial crisis, through no fault of their own, that prevents payment of rent or mortgage. • Applicant must demonstrate ability to regain self-sufficient financial status. • Applicant earns an income that falls within 80 percent of the area median income within the service area where the applicant resides. • Applicant must meet with a CCC housing counselor to establish a plan for self-sufficiency. • HIP assistance is provided to recipients one time only. Those who have received HIP dollars in the past are not eligible for additional assistance. • Applicant must have exhausted all other resources. How Do I Apply for HIP Assistance?
