pediatric endocrinology
If your child has a problem with growth, diabetes, puberty or
another disorder associated with hormones and the glands that produce
them, he or she may need to see a pediatric endocrinologist. Hormones
are chemicals that affect how children grow and mature. Endocrine
glands, such as the pituitary gland, which controls growth, release
hormones into a person's bloodstream.
At Bon Secours, we know that children aren't small adults — and this is especially true of endocrine systems. Children's endocrine systems are very different from adults', and our pediatric endocrinologists have received special training to deal with all kinds of hormonal problems in infants, children and teens. Our pediatric endocrinologists will work with you and your child not only to provide the best medical care, but also to make you and your child feel comfortable and secure. We'll take the time to talk with you, but more importantly, we'll take the time to listen.
Your child may see a pediatric endocrinologist if he or she has any of the following:
- Growth problems (such as short stature)
- Early or delayed puberty
- Enlarged thyroid gland (goiter)
- Underactive or overactive thyroid gland
- Pituitary gland problems
- Adrenal gland problems
- Ambiguous genitals
- Problems with ovaries or testicles
- Diabetes
- Low blood sugar
- Obesity
- Problems with vitamin D (rickets, hypocalcemia)
At Bon Secours, our pediatric endocrinologists will provide state-of-the-art diagnoses and treatments in a gentle, compassionate setting.
