St. Mary's Hospital has a dedicated, 24/7 Pediatric Emergency Department that includes a pediatric clinical team with pediatric nursing and board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians. Construction to expand the entire Emergency Department will begin in early 2011 and will include a new, separate pediatric entrance, waiting area, and dedicated X-ray suite. The Pediatric Emergency Department will expand to 12 treatment rooms when the project is complete. St. Mary's Hospital established Richmond's first dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department in 1992.
